Eraring power station is a 4 x 660 megawatt coal fired power station located approximately 150 km North of Sydney. The power station provides almost 25% of New South Wales power requirements.
The plant receives between 4.5 and 5 million tonnes of coal per year via road, rail and overland conveyor. Approximately 2.2 million tonnes of this coal is delivered by road transport over the sites two Mettler Toledo 100 tonne weighbridges.
In the mid 1980's the power station installed its first fully unmanned weighbridge management system designed and developed by Newcastle Weighing Services. The system boasted an IBM XT computer system and state of the art driver control stations featuring the latest MIL 4 card readers. In the early 1990's Newcastle Weighing Services was awarded the contract to upgrade the system to the latest DOS based automatic weighbridge system and state of the art driver control stations featuring proximity card readers. In 1999 the ageing DOS system was replaced by Newcastle Weighing services "AutoWeigh" automatic weighbridge management, remote supervisor software and new driver control stations featuring long range proximity card readers.
Eraring Power Stations weighbridges unmanned weigbridge systems operate 17 hours a day, 7 days a week receiving coal from 5 mines located in the Newcastle region. The automatic weighbridge management system receipts approximately 100,000 transactions per year and it is reliability is integral to the smooth operations of the plant.
